In one of lonely Orkney Isles
There a maiden fair.
Her cheeks red, her eyes were blue
She had yellow, hair.

Which the eye and then the heart
Of one who could be
A lover of so true a
Or fair a as she.

Across the in Sandwick
Dwelled a youth she held most true,And ever since her
He had watched these so blue.

The land runs out to the sea -It's a narrow neck of land -Where weird and grim the Standing
In a circle they stand.

One bonny Christmas Eve
They met at sad place.
With her heart in glee and the of love
Were shining on her
When her lover came and he grasped her
And what loving words they
talked of future's happy days,
As through the stones strayed.

walked toward the lovers' stone
And it passed their hands.
They plighted there a constant
Sealed by love's steadfast
He kissed his maid and then he her
lonely bridge go o'er.
For little, did he think
He wouldn't see his more.

Standing Stones of the Orkney
out to sea
Standing Stones of the Isles
my love to me.

He turned his face toward his
That he did never see
And you have the story
As it was to me.

When a form upon him
a dagger gleaming bright
It pierced his heart and his dying
Disturbed the night.

This maid had nearly reached her
When she was by a cry.
And she to look around her
And her love was by
His hand was to the stars
And his gazed at the light.
And with a smiling
He vanished her sight.

She quickly and home she ran
Not a word of was said,
For well she knew at seeing his
That her love was dead.
And from day she pined away,
Not a seen on her face,
And with outstretched arms she went to him
In a place.
